As we are getting back to the office to work desk-based jobs. It can be challenging to exercise when you are tied to a desk all week. If you work 40 or more hours per week. Plus spend anywhere from 30 to 2 hours per day commuting to work obviously, it will vary depending on how far you live from your job. The time spent being inactive does add up.

If you are overweight. One of the areas to look at addressing is how much you are spending seated. It does not have to be going to a gym or picking up a sport. It only requires being a bit more conscious at times with our activity. We will go through some ideas that will get you moving.

Do you drive or take public transport to work? Well, what you could do is depend on how far your home is from the office. You could walk there and back or work or part of it if you can. If you are someone who parks as close to the office as possible. What about parking further away from the building. So you will be able to take in some fresh air and your surroundings while moving. We could also apply this to other locations such as going shopping.

Do you find yourself taking the lift when you have to get to the floor your office is on? How about taking the stairs and walking up and again back down, instead of taking the lift.

Regular breaks

Take regular breaks to get up from your desk and walk around the office. Which can involve taking a trip to grab a cup of tea, coffee, or a glass of water. That will also help you to keep hydrated throughout the day. Which should make you improve your energy, so that you’re not tired.

Do you eat your lunch at your desk or perhaps while working away? Could you go outside and walk part of your lunch break? Which will allow you, to clear your head and unwind a bit from office tasks and get away from looking at screens. Where you should be more productive resuming work after your lunch break.

If you make any calls at work, most of us will chat on the phone while being confined to our chairs. So what you could do is get up out of the chair and away from your desk and walk about.

Although it can be tricky to spend less time seated and more time standing or moving. It is still very much possible, to get moving. What you will be able to do will depend on your specific job. For example, if certain jobs don’t let you take regular breaks in your office or stand at any point.
